Authorities launched ferry service on Aricha-Kazirhat river route on experimental basis on Wednesday.
Birsrestho Matiur Rahman, a Ro Ro (big vessel) ferry left Arichaghat of Manikganj for Kazirhat Ghat in Pabna on Wednesday afternoon, while, another ferry left Kazirhat for Aricha Ghat at the same time.
Commodore Golam Sadeque, Chairman of BIWTA, inspected the operation of the two ferries at the time while, Additional Chief Engineer (Dredging) Rakibul Islam Talukder, BIWTC DGM Zillur Rahman and other BIWTC and BIWTA officials were present.
Commodore Golam Sadeq said that the work of both-side ferry terminal has been completed. Besides, the waterway has also been made operational.
Now the ferry is being operated experimentally, but it will formally start very soon.
The communication between the capital city with several districts of the north-western region will be facilitated through this service.
It will save time as well as make the transportation of goods easier. We are going to start with a ferry on each side for now. Gradually we will launch a few more ferries on the route, added the BIWTA Chairman.
The people and freight trucks of Pabna district and Rajshahi division can travel between Dhaka city very easily now.
