A young Argentina fan was found hanging at his home in Kushtia's Bheramara upazila on Monday morning after he reportedly had an argument with his wife following his return home late at night after watching the FIFA World Cup final.
The deceased was identified as Sumon Hossain, 30, son of Afzal Hossain of Bahirchar Union.
According to police and local residents, Sumon returned home in the early hours of Monday after watching the World Cup final between Argentina and Spain. His wife questioned him about arriving home so late, which led to an argument between the couple.
Sumon's wife said she only asked him, “Is this the time to come home?” after he returned from watching the match.
She said Sumon later left the house again, and she went to sleep. In the early morning, she woke up and found him hanging inside the house.
Local resident Abdul Jalil said he heard cries coming from Sumon's house around 5:30am after returning from Fajr prayers. He rushed to the spot and, with the help of another person, brought Sumon down.
A local doctor later declared him dead.
Bheramara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Jahedur Rahman said the incident appeared to be a case of suicide, though the exact reason behind it could not yet be confirmed.
