The government has introduced area-based load shedding for a specific time to save the fuel used in power generation. It has reduced electricity production for some time (everyday) to save the fuel from Tuesday.
Against the backdrop of fuel crisis across the globe caused by the impacts of the Russia-Ukraine war and Covid-19 pandemic, the government has been compelled to execute load shedding and limit electricity generation. The prolonged impact of Covid-19 pandemic coupled with the recent Russia-Ukraine war has made the fuel market extremely unstable across the globe.
There is scarcity of power in many countries around the world. The prices of diesel, fuel oil, LNG, have increased remarkably. The government will not buy gas from international market as prices have increased abnormally. The government has taken a number of measures, including area-wise load-shedding and keeping diesel-run power plants shut to minimise the power crisis.
We all should maintain
austerity in using
electricity
Around 10 percent diesel is used in the power sector and the rest is used in the transport sector and if diesel-run power plants are kept closed the government would be able to save an ample amount of gasoline. Filling stations will also be kept shut for a day in a week throughout the country. Also, the government is planning to reduce the weekly working hours and introduce virtual office for its employees and officials to save electricity.
When we all were recovering from the impact of the Coronavirus, this war has plunged the world into a deep crisis again. Most rich countries like USA, UK and Australia are also facing serious scarcity of power due mainly to skyrocketing fuel price in the international market. This crisis is prevalent not only in developing countries like us but also in many developed and rich countries.
Some elements including BNP are trying to make this crisis a political issue, spreading falsehoods against the government in order destabilise the country. But the BNP should remember the country had to witness 8-10 hours of power cuts in the past during their regime.
We all have to understand that this global crisis has put all us in danger. People should maintain austerity in using electricity which will be beneficial to face any type of crisis in the future.
