Chittagong Christian community’s highest religious leader Archbishop Moses Costa has died. He died in the capital's Square Hospital on Monday morning.

James Gomez, Director of Chittagong region of Caritas, a social organization of the Catholic Church in Bangladesh said, “The archbishop had died of a brain hemorrhage. He suffered two strokes four days ago, after which he was taken to the ICU.

The body of Archbishop Moses Costa will be laid to rest at Patharghata Church this (Tuesday) morning for public homage. Archbishop Costa was very good towards the Missionaries of Charity, who work in his archdiocese in Chittagong.

I prayed for him when he was sick. Now that he is dead, I recommend him to the Lord and I am sure that God will give him a magnificent reward, because he was an excellent, committed shepherd to his people."

Moses Costa was 70 years old. In 1981 he became a priest in the Holy Cross congregation, which is widespread in Bangladesh. He became bishop of Chittagong in 2011.

The archdiocese of Chittagong has about 30 thousand faithful, distributed in 11 parishes. Most Catholics are tribal. He was the highest religious leader of the Catholic Christian community in Chittagong division.
