Arav Khan, a fugitive in the police murder case, is under watch in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson SeheliSabrin told reporters in the weekly briefing on Thursday.

She said the Ministry of Home Affairs and Bangladesh Mission in the UAE were working closely on the issue.

“He is under watch there,” she said while replying to a question, adding that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would extend required support if the Home Ministry sought it.  Arav Khan’s name and presence in Dubai came to the fore following the participation of cricketer Shakib al Hasan and content creator Hero Alam at the inauguration of AravJewellers in Dubai.

Earlier, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. ShahriarAlam on Tuesday said that Arav Khan, staying in Dubai, has not been arrested yet, but he cannot escape as he is identified.

“We informed them (UAE authority). It's an event unfolding. You will know in time,” he had said.

“No, he has not been arrested,” he had also said, as there were reports that the Dubai police arrested him there.

“There is no scope for any Bangladeshi accused to stay free in a friendly country if he is not granted political asylum and he identifies himself for ignorance or for any reason,” said the state minister.

Interpol has accepted Bangladesh police's request to issue a red corner against Arav Khan, owner of AravJewellers in Dubai.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan had said on Saturday that efforts were underway to bring him back to Bangladesh through the international police agency.
