Anti-VC protest continues at JU


A faction of teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) under the banner of ‘Jahangirnagar Against Corruption’ continued their demonstrations against the alleged corruption of vice-chancellor prof Farzna Islam. Terming the VC ‘corrupt’, the protesters gathered in front of Social Science Building of the university around 1 pm and displayed ‘black flag’ to JU VC on yesterday (Monday) for second consecutive day.

More than 50 teachers and students of JU took part in the black flag displaying program to step up their demand. Students started agitation on August 23 demanding judicial probe into the allegations of money scam and irregularities. They demanded her resignation on September 18 as the initiative to launch a judicial inquiry faltered.

On this program prof Anwarullah Bhuiyan of philosophy department said, “The position taken by the JU VC has questioned the education system of the country. As a university teacher we are ashamed. In order to free the university from the disgrace, she must resign before our ultimatum, otherwise we will go for tougher movement.”

They also announced to observe the ‘black flag’ demonstration on the campus every day during the admission test of the university. Among others, JU twachers Tarek Reza, Jamal Uddin Runu, Khobir Uddin, Kamrul Ahsan, Anwarullah Bhuiyan, Shamima Sultana Lucky and Jahangirnagar Sangskritik Jote president Ashikur Rahman were present.
