Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Freedom Fighter Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury has said the anti-liberation forces committed atrocities throughout the country in the name of quota reform movement.

The CCC mayor made the remark at Tigerpass CCC Office on Tuesday while speaking at a mourning meeting arranged in memory of those killed in the quota reform movement.

The mayor said some local and foreign evil forces caused the mayhem across the country in the name of quota reform movement to put the current government

in danger.  He said that he was involved in politics since 1966. He made his place in various committees of Awami League (AL) from Chhatra League by participating in struggles and movements.

“From the experience of my long political career, I can say this was not a normal movement. It was a movement to destroy the state. Why the Setu Bhaban, metro rail stations, Mayor Hanif Flyover, BTV and police boxes were damaged if it was a movement,” he said. The mayor said atrocities were carried out throughout the country using the hired men and unemployed youths in the name of quota reform movement.

“The miscreants killed a police member and hanged his body. They pushed off pro-liberation students from six-storied building in Muradpur. They selectively attacked the dream projects of the public. The students were not behind these atrocities. Actually, the anti-liberation force carried out these atrocities using the students as their shields,” he said.

To deal with this kind of situation in the future, committees are being formed, with the councillors as the presidents, to protect the lives and properties of people in 41 wards.

The Imams of the mosques in every area, heads of the educational institutions and important people of different occupations and classes will be made members of these committees.

The CCC mayor said, “We will make the people aware. We will prevent any kind of atrocity at its root by transforming our grief to our strength.”

CCC Secretary Mohammad Ashraful Amin moderated the mourning meeting. Councillor Abdus Salam Masum, CCC Law Officer Jashim Uddin, Chief Engineer Shahin-ul-Islam Cowdhury, Personal Secretary to the mayor Abul Hashem, Chief Accounting Officer Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, Special Magistrate Monisha Mahajon, Executive Magistrate Choiti Sarbabidya, Superintending Engineer Farhadul Alam and Jashim Uddin, Executive Engineer Ashikul Islam and Tasmia Tahsin were present in the meeting.
