Police Bureau of Investigation arrested another key accused in connection with sensational murder of left leaning extremist group Nakshal leader Abu Hanif.
Talking to the Bangladesh Post, Md Abu Yousuf, Additional Superintend of PBI, the specialized investigation unit of Bangladesh Police, confirmed it on Wednesday.
The arrested was identified as MdMamun Hossain,40, son of late AnsarMondhol, hailing from PurbaBanagram under AtaikulaUpazila in Pabna district.
The prime accused was arrested from Jalalpur area under PabnaSadarUpazila at around 10 am Tuesday.
According to the case statement, Hanif was hacked to death in November in 2017.
Earlier on March 15, Rezaul Karim Reza and Md Abdul Matin, who was a micro bus driver were arrested. They also had given confessional statement before a Pabna court.
According to the PBI sources, on November 24. Hanif left his house for going to Bogra. Later his phone was found switched off. Three day later, police recovered an unidentified body at Bot TolaBudhgari bill uderAtaikulaUpazila in Pabna. His left leg was also separated from the body. On November 27, Abu TalebMollah, brother of Abu Hanif lodged a murder case against unidentified killers.
PabnaSadar Police first started the investigation of the case. However, PBI at the instruction of the PBI headquarters took the investigation.
SP MdFazleElahi, in-charge of Pabna unit of PBI said, we had assigned Sub Inspector MdSobuj Ali as investigation officer of the clueless murder.
He said, it was a pre-planned murder and we unearthed the clue.
Hanifwas brutally killed following the internal disputes among the Nakshal leaders, he added.
Internal conflict was going on to establish supremacy among the local Nakshal leader including arrested Mamun.
SlaimHanif was also an influential leader of Nakshal. Once he had closed relations with murderer Mamun and other suspects.
As part of their plan, arrested micro -bus driver Matin took Hanif on his micro bus. Arrested Mamun was also with Matin.
They took Hanif to lonely BotTolaBudhgari bill area uderAtaikulaUpazila in Pabna and hacked to death. They separated his head and leg from his body.
After killing Hanif, they dumped the body under hyacinth so that no one find the body.
