Another attempt to intricate rivals in Sunamganj

Victim FF’s wife, son held after minor witness narrates incident

Within a month of the brutal killing of a son by allegedly his father, another incident of murder of a freedom fighter has been committed allegedly by his son and his wife at Doara Bazaar in Sunamganj.

Abdul Barik, 75, son of Muslim Ali of Sultanpur village under Luxmipur union of Doarabazaar upazila, was brutally killed at his on Sunday morning. Police, however, arrested Barik’s wife Asia, 60, and their son Milon Mia,18, in this connection.

Police suspect that the incident might be caused as a result of rivalry over landed properties with the neighbours and the murder was a planned one to intricate rival neigbours as the killers. But daughter of the victim claimed that her father's rivals were responsible for the murder. Freedom fighters of the upazila, however, expressed deep shock at the brutal murder of Barik. 

Police and locals said that Abdul Barik was rescued from his house with fatal injury on his head with an iron rod on Sunday morning. Later, wife and son took him to the local hospital in a critical condition where the attending doctors declared him dead.

Aftermath of the incident, both the wife and son went to the local police station to file a case against the rival neigbours who have a long-standing quarrel for the possession of a fragment of land near the house. During the visit to the police station, a grandson of Abdul Barik who accompanied Asia and Milon Mia during the interrogation by police, informed his grandmother and uncle had killed his grandfather by hitting him on the head with an iron road at the early morning of Sunday. As a result, police arrested both wife and son of Barik.

On information, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sunamganj Mijanur Rahman visited the spot.

SP Mijanur Rahman said that the minor witness of the murder, Rabiul, 8, was quizzed further.

After searching the room, police watched blood stained floor and bed and recovered a blood-stained rod (shabal) concealed at a corner of the room.

It is learnt, there was a long-standing dispute with neigbours Kala Shah, Rakib Mia and Hannan Mia regarding the possession of a fragment of land near their house at the village.  As a sequel of the rivalry, Afiz Ali, son-in-law of Kala Shah was killed in 2017. Shehbaz Mia, elder son of Abdul Barik, has been sentenced to jail in the murder case of Afiz Ali.

Abdul Barik's son Milon, an intermediate second year student of Doara Bazaar Collge, used to live with his parents at their house.
