The world is already battling the deadly grasp of covid-19 pandemic which took almost 3 million lives till date. However, antimicrobial resistance has now come into folds in the health sector which can cause a more devastating impact than the coronavirus pandemic.
In the virtual platform of “One Health Global Leaders Group on Antimicrobial Resistance” Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina shared her views on what (antimicrobial resistance) she thinks is an impending pandemic and if not tackled properly can have much deadlier effects than covid.
This is because this anti-drug resistance will not only endanger human, animal and plant health, but also threaten food security and progress towards the attainment of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). It can also affect anyone, regardless of geographical location and socio-economic condition.
Strict administrative measures
are needed to stop antibiotics
from being easily available
This impending threat is now needed to be dealt with topmost priority before it becomes deadly. Our country along with other global leaders should unite to create universal health care for this disease.
To tackle this impending disease, massive importance is there to build awareness among the concerned authorities and policy-makers to take coordinated action across the sectors. Taking antibiotics inaptly and also taking it without any prescription is making people too much dependent on it, which is making wrong doses hence after sometime antibiotic resistance is occurring in the body. This needs to be stopped.
Strict administrative measures are needed to stop antibiotics from being easily available. Massive awareness campaign is also needed so that people know the catastrophic consequences it can have. Therefore, commitment and coordination are needed from all administrative organisations among relevant sectors so that we can tackle this problem before it gets bigger.
