Keeping aside all the speculations, former national team captain Aminul Islam Bulbul has finally has become the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) until the BCB elections. The Board of Directors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in an emergency meeting at the BCB headquarter selected Bulbul a the BCB president on Friday.

It was already acknowledged that Bulbul was going to be the BCB president when lot of discussions were going on for last two days.

Bulbul received the approval as the BCB director from the National Sports Council (NSC) following the cancelation Faruque Ahmed’s councillorship that means there was no way left for Faruque to remain as the BCB president.

Bulbul is the 16th president of the BCB. He is also the second former Bangladesh cricketer to ascend to the spot after Faruque.

However, Bulbul elected as the president, when Nazmul Abedin Fahim and Fahim Sinha were made senior-vice-president and the vice-president respectively of the BCB in the meeting of the directors took place at 4:30pm on Friday.

Meanhile, following the termination of National Sports Council’s (NSC) membership of BCB president Faruque Ahmed on Thursday, Aminul was handed one of the vacant spots from the NSC quota. In the board directors’ meeting Bulbul was elected as the new BCB president by the directors.

Bulbul, the first Test centurion of Bangladesh is going to take over the charge of the BCB president for a short time.

Earlier, National Sports Council (NSC) revoked president Faruque Ahmed's directorship from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Thursday.

NSC issued a press release late on Thursday, saying it made the decision on the basis of majority of the board directors - eight of the nine board of directors at the BCB sent a no confidence letter against Faruque earlier in the day.

In an official letter dated May 29, the NSC cited Section 13.2 (b)(4) of its Act to justify the cancellation of Faruque's position as a government-nominated councillor to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

The decision came after a group of BCB directors sought an immediate removal of the BCB president Faruque Ahmed by submitting a formal no-confidence letter to the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The NSC stated that out of nine - eight board directors – Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, Fahim Sinha, Mohammad Saiful Alam Swapon Chowdhury, Iftekhar Rahman Mithu, Mahbub Anam, Kazi Inam Ahmed, Manjur Alam and Mohammad Salahuddin – have sent a signed letter of no confidence and sought his removal to NSC when Akram Khan was the only board director who did not sign it.

The directors accused Faruque of autocratic leadership, constitutional violations, financial mismanagement, and links to controversial individuals.

In the letter, the directors alleged that Faruque Ahmed had consistently bypassed board members and violated the BCB constitution in key administrative and financial matters.

The end of Faruque's directorship will also likely spell the end of his presidency at the cricket board, as a non-director cannot be the president of the BCB.

Meanwhile, Faruque, who was one of the two NSC nominated directors in the current BCB board along with Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, was elected as president of the board on August 21, replacing Nazmul Hassan Papon, who stepped down following the ouster of the Awami League regime.

Following the NSC’s decision a day-long drama centered around the BCB presidency on Thursday with the day beginning former Bangladesh cricketer Aminul Islam Bulbul had a proposal from the NSC and his acceptance to succeed Faruque as the next BCB president. The confirmation from Bulbul came when Faruque was reportedly asked to no longer continue as the BCB president by sports advisor Asif Mahmud on Wednesday night. But Faruque was still determined to carry on as board president, as he demanded a "valid reason" for him to step away.
