Aman paddy farmers happy in Chatmohor

Ropa Aman paddy is yielding well in current season in Chatmohar of Chalanbil dominated Pabna. Farmers are busy with paddy harvesting and threshing. Due to the good yield and price of rice, there is a smile on the face of the farmer.

According to Upazila Agriculture Office sources, in the current season, the target of cultivation of saplings is set on 7 thousand 430 hectares of land in Chatmohar. 7 thousand 610 hectares have been achieved. 180 hectares of paddy cultivation is more than the target area. Afsar Ali, a Ropa Aman farmer of Bara Shalikha village of Gunaigacha union of the upazila, said that in one bigha of land Ropa Aman paddy cultivation costs Tk 11,000 for tillage, seeds, seedlings, weed removal, fertilizers, pesticides and cutting. 

The yield is 16 to 18 bushels per bigha. The owner of the irrigator has to give one-fifth of the paddy from the land. 

In Bigha, the farmer has about 12 maunds of paddy whose market value is about Tk 15,000. Two thousand rupees worth of hay is available from each bigha of land. As a result, the farmer's profit per bigha is about 6 thousand taka.

Inamul Hossain, a farmer of Ramnagar village of Bilchalon Union, said that as the price of paddy has increased, so has the price of agricultural inputs. Farmers can earn about 5 thousand rupees per bigha by cultivating saplings.

In this regard, Chatmohar Upazila Agriculture Officer AA Masum Billah said that in Chatmohar, Bridhan 39, 49, 56, 71, 75, 87 and Bina 7, 17, 22 varieties of Aman rice are cultivated. Good paddy has been harvested in this season due to favorable weather conditions. 

An average yield of about 4 and a half tons per hectare is available. Farmers are benefiting by cultivating Ropa Aman paddy.
