“I can’t explain in words what I had to gone through last year when my child  appeared in admission tests in different universities. From that incident, I know how much hard work parents do for their children and what type of support they need.”

While recalling the memory of his child’s admission test, Asim Kumar Talukder said that if the seniors do not take responsibility, the future of children will not be built.

Asim Kumar Talukder, General Manager of Railways Western Region, is the man behind the story that helps more than seven hundred admission-seeking students to appear in their admission test.

He said that around 700 students were supposed to go to Rajshahi from Dhaka by ‘Dhumketu Express’ train to participate in the admission test at 3.30 pm. Dhumketu Express departed from Dhaka late due to rail break. Calculating the departure time he started working since then.

Thinking about the time of the admission test of the students, Dhumketu Express was brought forward leaving some other trains behind. But its engine failed when it reached Mohanpur Station. As a result, the movement of the train stopped totally. Thinking of the admission seekers the engine of the ‘Chilahati Express’ train at Saratnagar was replaced to Dhumketu Express. The train started again after 35 minutes.

It was estimated that the train would reach Rajshahi station at 4 pm, half an hour after the test would begin.

Asim requested Rajshahi University VC Professor Golam Sabbir Sattar to postpone the examination. The train was running at breakneck speed. The worry was

not leaving behind - will the students be able to enter the examination center in time?

The Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi University was taking updates of the train. Asim Kumar instructed not to stop the train at Arani station to save time. Finally the train reached Rajshahi University Station at 3:38 PM.

Thus Asim Kumar Talukdar saved the future of some 700 bright children.
