In order to create alternative employment for fishermen in Kalapara, cheques and cows have been distributed to the families of dead fishermen.
Patuakhali 4 constituency MP Sahibbur Rahman addressed the function as the chief guest at the Kalapara Senior Fisheries Officer's Office on Monday. District Fisheries Officer Mollah Emdadullah and Upazila Chairman SM Rakibul Ahsan spoke as special guests under the chairmanship of Upazila Executive Officer Abu Hasnat Mohammad Shahidul Haque.
Under the Hilsa Resource Development and Management Project, Kalapara Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Apu Saha hosted the programme and Upazila Animal Resources Officer Gazi Mohammad Shahalam, Vice Chairman Shafiqul Alam Press Club President Humayun Kabir, UP Chairman Humayun Kabir, Babul and Fisherman Shahidul Khan among others spoke.
The guests distributed 50,000 Tk to the family of fisherman Alamgir Biswas, who was killed in a lightning strike while fishing, and cows to 10 fishermen to provide alternative employment.
