There is no use of forming an alliance as people will vote for Awami League, said Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud.

“BNP did this before 2018. The result of that alliance was only 5 seats. This time too they are trying to form a front. Sometimes they do not have a secretary and sometimes a president. They might try to form an alliance but it would not bring any results,” he said.

He made the remarks while speaking to reporters during a regular meeting of the Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust in the conference room of the Ministry at the Secretariat on Sunday afternoon.

“BNP is not finding any issue, therefore they are grasping at straws to keep their politics alive. Although their movement of collapse against government started in 2009, the people gave us the responsibility to run the country by voting us twice. And despite their threats, I firmly believe that the people will give Awami League the responsibility to run the country by winning the next election as well,” he said.

On the National Film Day, the Minister expressed his conviction to take the country's film industry forward on the path to a golden future.

Hasan Mahmud said, “Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Bangabandhu, has taken many steps for the development of the film industry which was started by the Father of the Nation in 1957.”

Mentioning the creation of a simple loan fund of Tk 1,000 crore for the construction and renovation of the hall and the formation of Film Artists Welfare Trust and construction of Film City, the Minister said that this year the day is being celebrated informally at FDC to preserve the solemnity of Ramadan.

“The good old days of films are coming back and the industry is turning around. Our film will get back the golden days again and will be established in a dignified position in the world arena,” he hoped.

When asked about the commodity price hike, the Minister said that coronavirus and Ukraine war have pushed up commodity prices all over the world, including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Europe and America.

“Food and commodity prices in Europe are at an all-time high at present. The price of import dependent products has gone up in our country as well. The Prime Minister has given TCB family cards to one crore low-income families. Apart from this, goods are being sold at low prices by truck in the city. This has also affected the market. The prices of the products that went up have come down gradually. Prices of oil, onions and other commodities have also come down,” he said.
