The president and general secretary of the old and traditional Masjidul Mukarram in Natore have accused a section of the steering committee of conspiracy. The mosque committee leaders made the allegations at a press conference at the Natore United Press Club at 12 noon on Thursday.
According to their allegations, Alauddin, vice president of the mosque has been conspiring to disrupt donations. In addition to tarnishing the mosque’s reputation, it is having an adverse effect on the public mind about the house of God.
Afzal Hossain, general secretary of the mosque committee, in a written statement said at the press conference that a local newspaper had recently made allegations against the current president and secretary of the mosque committee for not convening meetings, not showing income and expenditure accounts, of arbitrariness and irregularities. “These allegations are false and ill-motivated”, he added.
He further said that in the last 6 years, the income and expenditure account of the mosque has been shown to be around Tk 50 lakh. Alauddin, the current vice-president of the mosque, exhibited a planned quorum crisis by being intentionally absent with his followers. In the past, all the development and fund raising has been conducted by the current President Abdur Rahman Anu since he had been secretary for a long time. In future, he will be able to play a more important role in the management of the mosque. Therefore, a syndicate has been conspiring to discredit him and stop donations for the mosque.
President Abdur Rahman Anu said that Alauddin himself is the convener of the sub-committee that was formed recently for the construction of bathrooms in the mosque. But he gave false information saying he did not know anything. He received Tk 4,76,620 from the present General Secretary through a check of Agrani Bank.
Besides, he did not provide any account to the committee for the Tk 45,000 raised from the Kabikha project. It can be assumed that he has embezzled the money. Plaintiff Alauddin is trying to create a stalemate by filing case against the mosque in the court. This is hampering the overall activities including the development of the mosque and tarnishing the image of the mosque, he added.
President of the mosque committee Abdur Rahman Anu, general secretary Abdur Rahman, vice president Lutfar Rahman Sarkar and member Tipu Sultan were present at the press conference.
Accused Alauddin said that “Abdur Rahman Anu has been the general secretary for 28 years. During this time, he did not provide any account of any expenditure. A new committee has been formed with the mediation of the OC of Natore police station after the complaint was lodged. Abdur Rahman Anu has become the chairman of this committee. He holds committee meetings without filling the quorum. The accounts of all the money that was given to me to build the toilet has been provide.”
