All litchi varieties available in Dinajpur, wholesalers happy with price

The litchi markets across the country finally gained momentum. Litchi of various colors and delicious taste has caught everyone's attention. Litchi is going to different parts of the country including the capital Dhaka. The price is also within reach. According to the Dinajpur Department of Agricultural Extension, litchi yield has improved in Dinajpur. This time, Dinajpur will produce more than 30 metric tonnes of litchi. In all, more than 600 crores worth of litchi will be sold this year.

It has been found that litchi of Dinajpur Sadar Upazila is more popular all over the country. Among the litchis produced in the area, Madrasi, China Three and Bedana are already on the market. However, traders said that Bombay, jackfruit and potted litchi varieties will be available in the market in a few days.

It has been seen on the spot that the litchi market is crowded in the historic Gore-e-Shaheed Bara Maidan of Dinajpur. Many wholesalers are buying and selling litchi from vans. Besides, the litchi market has become a hotbed of buyers and sellers. Apart from this, in markets of Dinajpur, along the roadsides, traders have set up stalls of different varieties of litchi all over the country.

Madrasi, Bedana and China Three varieties of litchi are now available in this temporary litchi market in Dinajpur. Imports can be said to be much better.

However, this time the price is quite high. Madras litchi is being sold at a wholesale price of Tk 2,500 to Tk 3,000 per thousand. Bedana varieties are being sold at Tk 9,000 to Tk 12,000 per thousand and China Three is being sold at Tk 13,000 to Tk 16,000 per thousand. However, traders said that the price will continue to rise.

Fruit traders said that on an average, litchi is being bought and sold from a shop in the retail market for around Tk 2.5 lakh per day. There are 80 stores in this retail market of litchi. There are 40 shops in the wholesale market. According to the traders, litchis worth a maximum of Tk 10 lakh are bought and sold from one shop in this wholesale market.

Meanwhile, the local relatives are in dire straits due to the unreasonable service charge imposed by the courier company to send litchi to their loved ones from Dinajpur to different parts of the country.

One of the victims said that to send 200 litchis to Dhaka, a courier company has to pay 500 Tk and home delivery costs 600 Tk. The victims termed it as a robbery in broad daylight and sought the intervention of the administration in this regard. Dinajpur Fruit Traders Shop Owners Association President. Rastam Ali and General Secretary Raziur Rahman Biplob said that the yield of litchi has been good. The price is a little higher than last time.

Because, this time we have to buy litchi at a higher price from the garden.

Although the price is high, good litchi is being sold, they said. Many people from different districts are staying in Dinajpur to eat litchi in the country's best juicy fresh toasts. The government primary teacher examination will be held in Dinajpur-Thakurgaon-Panchagarh tomorrow, Friday.
