Many of the courageous steps taken by the government in 2020 have been praised at home and abroad.

These types of steps also have set examples in political history.

The government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as part of its courageous steps conducted anti-corruption drives within government administrations and the party. Sheikh Hasina has also been praised for releasing Khaleda Zia on bail.

The government under the appropriate leadership of Sheikh Hasina, the eldest daughter of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, has successfully kept the country, its people and economy afloat by dealing with the catastrophic cyclone Amphan, long-term floods and, above all, the global Corona pandemic.

Besides, the government has played a courageous role in dealing with the fundamentalists, extremists and anti-liberation forces, which tried to make the country unstable through various anti-state acts in the name of religion.

The examples were set by conducting cleansing drives against corruption, arresting controversial leaders of the party, government officials and businessmen.

The present Awami League led 14-party alliance government has set many examples by arresting a large number of controversial political leaders, businessmen, and government officials for their corruption, irregularities and various other illicit activities.

Since the government has adopted a zero tolerance policy toward all kinds of crimes and corruption, it has also been found to be determined in taking tougher actions against all the godfathers or patrons of these types of criminals.

Sheikh Hasina is always saying that no criminal, whoever he or she is, would be spared if found involved in criminal activities.

As per her announcement, the government has arrested many political leaders, who belonged to her own party Bangladesh Awami League. Not only that the party has excluded many of the powerful and influential leaders from the posts of Awami League and its different associate organisations.

Furthermore,  incidents of arrest of ruling party leaders during the period of earlier governments were unprecedented.

That is why the arrest of a large number of businessmen, government officials and contractors, who had been carrying out various illicit acts by using political identities, have been praised by the people of the country, even if abroad.

It is widely known to all that several hundred people, including a large number of bigwigs, have been arrested in recent times for their crimes and corruption in different sectors.

Besides, a list of their patrons and godfathers has also been prepared aimed at taking actions against them soon. The beneficiaries in the criminal acts have also been black listed by different agencies of the government.

As per the moves, the government has arrested several hundred leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League and different other associate bodies of the ruling party. Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat, GK Shamim, Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan, Shamima Nur Papia, Golden Monir and many others were arrested for their involvement in illegal casino business and manipulation of contractor business.

Sources said, the government is now going to take action against those who are involved in the embezzlement of crores of taka from different banks, including the Basic Bank, illegal drugs and arms business.

It is widely known that during the BNP-led government, Tareq Rahman, the elder son of the then Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, his friend Giasuddin Al Mamun, BNP leader Haresh Chowdhury, MAH Selim alias Silver Selim and many other leaders from the BNP and Jamaat had become the owners of hundred of crores of taka by abusing power. But, the then BNP government did  not take any measures against them.

As per the latest moves of the government, owners and high officials of different hospitals have been arrested in very recent times for cheating in the name of testing of coronavirus and supplying face masks.

Regent Hospital owner Md Shahed alias Shahed Karim, GKG owner Ariful, his wife Dr Sabrina and Shahabuddin Hospital owner and his son are among those arrested along with their accomplices for cheating and corruption.

After their arrest, corruption by a section of unscrupulous officials of the Health Department and the ministry are also now being discussed and criticized.

In this regard, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader, who is also the Minister for Roads, Transports and Bridges Affairs, said that trust of the people on hospitals as well as on the health sector would be brought back by taking action against all those who are involved in corruption and cheating.
