Ruling Awami League on Thursday warned its leaders and activists of taking action for breaching party discipline.
“If anyone wants to carry out anything in the party in a free style manner, he/she must be punished,” he said while exchanging views with grassroots leaders of Khulna Division at AL central office on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.
Taking the floor, Kushtia general secretary urged the central leaders to play due roles so that the influential leaders, including lawmakers and ministers cannot meddle in upazila parishad polls.
The AL spokesperson said party president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina always takes a note of such incident and takes action timely.
Urging all not to meddle in Upazila Parishad polls, Quader said anybody can contest the upazila parishad polls.
“If anybody wants to vie the polls, there is no problem to contest the polls. The Boat symbol is not given to anyone,” he said.
Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, called upon the grassroots to end internal conflict ahead of the upazila parishad polls.
“The Upazila Parishad polls is drawing nearer. If we engage in infighting, it will be tough to move forward. So, internal conflict and difference of opinions must be ended,” he said.
Hinting at the BNP, the AL spokesperson said as long as BNP will remain under the leadership of its acting chairman Tarique Rahman, it cannot come to right track.
“Fugitive convict Tarique Rahman is the curse of BNP. As long as he will lead the BNP, the party cannot come to right path. It will remain stuck in the quicksand of errors,” he said.
The AL general secretary asked Tarique Rahman to come to home if he has courage to do politics here. “If you have courage, come home and do politics. Keep courage to go to jail. The people will not respond to your call from London,” he said.
Even some BNP leaders also dub the party's call for movement as fake, he said.
The minister said BNP has failed in movement and elections while their call for boycotting Indian products has also failed.
“Indian products are in bedrooms and kitchens of BNP leaders. That is why BNP's so-called call for boycotting Indian products is hypocrisy,” he said.
Quader criticised the pro-BNP freedom fighters for not uttering a single word in their freedom fighters' rally on the Genocide Day on March 25.
“They are fake freedom fighters. Today, they still continue debate over the proclaimer of independence,” he said.
"Only Bangabandhu got the mandate from the people to proclaim the independence. So, nobody else has the right to do so,” Quader said.
AL joint general secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, organizing secretaries BM Mozammel Haque and SM Kamal Hossain were present, among others, with AL presidium member Kazi Zafarullah in the chair.
