The ruling Bangladesh Awami League has decided to take toucher action against those party members who are violating some party decisions and also found involved in various corruption, said several leaders of the party.

They said as per the instructions from the party high-command, the ruling party is going to take the decision immediate after (March 26) the ongoing celebration of the golden jubilee of the Independence of Bangladesh.

AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader, also the Minister for Road, Transport and Bridges, on Monday warned the party men as saying that tougher actions will be taken against those who are violating the party’s decisions.

“Immediately after the celebration events of the golden jubilee of the independence of Bangladesh ends on March 26, punitive measures will be taken against them through the party’s executive committee,” said Obaidul Quader.

He said, “Prime Minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina is very serious and strict on maintaining the party’s discipline.”

“Whoever he or she is, party will not spare anybody if found violating party’s decision or discipline,” said Obaidul Quader.

The AL general secretary also warned against those leaders who are raising voices about opposing the party decisions and delivering anti-party speeches.

The party sources said a large number of party leaders took parts in the elections as the rebel candidates in the elections to different local bodies while many others had sheltered them. Besides, many other leaders had worked for the rebels and even for the opposition party candidates instead of the party nominated candidates.

Moreover, a section of leaders were found involved with anti-party activities while some others were found sheltering intruders into the party.

Party sources said lack of discipline in the local and grass-root levels and internal feuds among the party leaders seem to have left the party into extreme disarray.

In such circumstance, the leaders and activists of the party’s grass-root levels have urged for immediate interference from the party’s high-command to save the party.

As per the party men, although each and every leaders, workers and supporters of the Awami League from the central to the grass-root level has full faith on the party president Sheikh Hasina, there are internal feuds among other leaders and workers in the party’s grass-root levels.

Due to internal feuds and lack of discipline, many of the party leaders and activists in the grass-root level pay respect to the chain of command. They are not following the directives of their senior leaders. Even they often do not follow the party’s decision taken centrally. Many grassroots leaders are openly talking negatively about the central leaders.

Not only that many decisions of the central leaders are not being followed by the lawmakers, ministers and other leaders, who have been elected as the public representatives in the district, upazila and union parishad levels.

As a result, many of the party leaders and activists in the local and grass-root levels are practicing their own power to establish their dominancy. Many others are being appeared as the rebel candidates in the elections to different local representative bodies.

The elections to the recently held Chttogram City Corporation (CHC) could be mentioned as an example. At least 92 local rebels of the Awami League and its different associate bodies took part in the CCC elections as the councilor candidates in 41 wards.

Of them, at least seven rebels also have won the election by defeating the candidates nominated by the Awami League. Same incidents also took place in many other elections held earlier.

Some of the leaders in the party said, taking advantages of indiscipline in the party, criminals, corrupt people and intruders are taking positions into the party. On the other hand, the leaders and activists, who are honest and dedicated are being deprived and also angry on the party leaders.

However, senior leaders of the Awami League said they are aware of the indiscipline and internal feuds in the party’s grass-root levels. They said they are seriously working to come to a solution so that the party image could not be damaged.
