We congratulate Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the worthy daughter of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on her party’s (Awami League) landslide victory in Sunday’s national parliamentary election. This is Awami League’s (AL) fourth straight victory.
People believe that Awami League led by Sheikh Hasina has been able to bring back democracy through hard struggles. The development of the country will go on as the democratic process continues further. Therefore, the January 7 election is a milestone in the history of the country’s democracy.
We also hail her (Sheikh Hasina) government and Election Commission for the holding the general election in a free, fair and peaceful manner. We can definitely say Sheikh Hasina has set an example of holding a free and fair national election appreciated at home and abroad.
We also thank all those including to law enforcement forces who were involved in ensuring such election in free, fair and neutral manner braving a lot of hurdles. Sheikh Hasina has proved that how an acceptable election can be held under an independent and neutral EC.
So, we also welcome the successful completion of the election in our country. We hope, the new cabinet will be formed and the newly elected members of parliament (MPs) will take oath soon. Visiting international observers also described the just-held election in Bangladesh as “free, fair and safe.”

Now implementation of AL’s promises made in electoral manifesto will be the big challenges for the party. Therefore, the party leaders must be determined to work hard to materialise the pledges made in the party manifesto.
The parliamentary election witnessed the reflection of enormous mass-support for AL’s election symbol ‘boat’ across the country. AL got 223 seats, independent candidates 61 seats while Jatiya Party 11 and others won in three seats out of 298 seats in the unofficial results announced by the EC so far.
The victory of the AL in the polls is a reflection of stunning development that Bangladesh attained under Sheikh Hasina’s dynamic leadership. We also highly appreciate Sheikh Hasina’s leadership for development of the country and hope that her promises to make Bangladesh a hunger-poverty-free smart country by 2041 will be materialised as her party is going to form straight fourth time government.
Smart Bangladesh has four pillars - Smart Citizens, Smart Government, Smart Economy, and Smart Society. So, the government will have to work in every field to make Bangladesh a smart country.
We think this victory means the ‘Victory of the People’. People exercised their franchise in choosing their favourite candidates in the polls. There was no intimidation or interference in voting. Therefore, this poll will strengthen the democratic movement in the country.
We think this poll will strengthen the pillars of democracy at the grassroots, increasing scopes of accountability and thus augment development activities at marginal level. Countrymen on Sunday witnessed that the election was free and fair which was professionally administered having high degree of enthusiasm from the voters, polling staff and others concerned.
