The Bangladesh Awami League, one of the country’s oldest political parties, celebrated its 73rd founding anniversary on Thursday with a fresh vow to continue work for the development of the country and the welfare of its people.

We greet the party on the occasion of its 73rd founding anniversary. This year’s celebration bears special significance as a festive mood prevails among the people across the country centring inauguration of the long-cherished Padma Multipurpose Bridge tomorrow (Saturday).

The Awami League and the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman are involved in all the democratic movements and great achievements of the country including the historic language movement in 1952 and Great Liberation War in 1971. The Bangali nation believes the party, which led the country’s nine-month bloody Liberation War and finally achieved an independent and sovereign Bangladesh, will always follow its founding principle and guidelines of achieving emancipation for people.

The party must stay alert to both internal and external

conspiracies and keep the leaders and workers at the

grassroots united ahead of the next parliamentary polls

Under the leadership of Bangabandhu, we have achieved an independent and sovereign Bangladesh while under his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s dynamic leadership Bangladesh has constructed the super structure like the long-cherished Padma Multipurpose Bridge by own finance, creating a perception that “Bangladesh can do” and it has brightened the country’s image globally.

In government or opposition, wherever the party remains, its leaders and activists always stand by the countrymen and work for them.  The nation is advancing fast on its way to build a developed Bangladesh by 2041 under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, President of Awami League.

The party with the support of the people is now working hard in order to establish a happy, prosperous, developed and ‘Sonar Bangladesh’ as dreamt of by the Father of Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Since its inception the party has been struggling to ensure democracy, socialism and secularism alongside working for the establishment of the rights of the masses and their economic emancipation till date.

And since then, the anti-liberation and evil forces continued plotting to destroy the spirit of independence, sovereignty, democracy and Liberation War. As part of their blue print, they assassinated Bangabandhu and most of his family members on the fateful night of August 15, 1975. Besides, the anti-liberation and evil forces also launched grisly grenade attack on an Awami League anti-terrorism rally in capital Dhaka on August 21, 2004 to kill Bangabandhu’s daughter, the then opposition leader and incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in order to bankrupt the party leadership during the BNP-Jamaat alliance government.

By the grace of the Almighty, Sheikh Hasina narrowly escaped the carnage. When Sheikh Hasina was elected Prime Minister, Bangladesh again started running on the path to materialize the dream of Bangabandhu.

We believe the party will always stay beside the people as it does politics for the welfare of the people. However, the AL must stay alert to both internal and external conspiracies and keep the leaders and workers at the grassroots united ahead of the next parliamentary polls.
