We observed the 72nd founding anniversary of the country’s oldest and largest political party Bangladesh Awami League (AL) on Wednesday. Since its inception the party has been struggling to ensure democracy, socialism and secularism alongside working for the establishment of the rights of the masses and their economic emancipation till date.

The Bangalee nation believes the Awami League and the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman are involved in all the democratic movements and great achievements of the country including the historic language movement and great Liberation War.

After a bloody nine-month Liberation War in 1971 led by the Awami League under the leadership of Bangabandhu, we achieved an independent and sovereign Bangladesh.  And since then, the anti-liberation and evil forces continued plotting to destroy the spirit of independence, sovereignty, and democracy of the country perpetuating murder, conspiracy, militancy and corruption. As part of their blue print, they assassinated Bangabandhu and most of his family members on the fateful night of August 15, 1975.

The party under the dynamic and visionary leadership

of Sheikh Hasina is driving Bangladesh towards

becoming a developed and prosperous nation

Besides, the anti-liberation and evil forces launched grisly grenade attack on an Awami League anti-terrorism rally in capital Dhaka on August 21, 2004 to kill Bangabandhu’s daughter, the then opposition leader and incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in order to bankrupt the party leadership during the BNP-Jamaat alliance government. With the grace of the Almighty, Sheikh Hasina narrowly escaped the carnage.

After facing different hurdles, like a phoenix bird, the party has obtained new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessors, making remarkable progress in different sectors, including economy, agriculture, education, food security, social safety, infrastructural development, power, employment, investment and women rights.

The party now under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Sheikh Hasina is driving Bangladesh towards becoming a developed and prosperous nation. On the occasion of 72nd founding anniversary of the ruling Awami League, we hope the party will always stay beside the people as it does politics for the welfare of the people. We also believe under the leadership of AL, we will build a Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Bangabandhu.
