Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday vowed that they will not attack anyone and they have not attacked so far.
He, however, warned that if they are attacked, they will also carry out counter attack.
He made these remarks while addressing a views-exchange meeting at the Dhaka district Awami League office in city’s Tejgaon area.
Obaidul Quader said, “Why we shall leave power? If BNP comes to power, they will swallow Bangladesh. If they come to power, they will also swallow the liberation war of Bangladesh.”
“We shall have to eliminate the evil forces together”, the senior minister opined.
He exchanged views with the presidents, general secretaries of Awami League's Dhaka metropolitan North and South units, Dhaka district unit, AL-backed elected people’s representatives and associate organizations' central and Dhaka city, Dhaka district unit heads.
The ruling party’s second in command said, “If you want to protect the victory of 1971, then the main enemy of victory and sectarianism is BNP. So, BNP must be defeated.”
BNP is the trusted address of all evil forces. This force must be defeated. Otherwise victory will not be protected, he continued.
Those who have bled our victory time and again, must be defeated, he went on.
The blood of our national leaders in 1975 made our victory bloody. After 21 years, a steam roller of torture had been run on Awami League leaders and activists. Then on August 21 grenade attack , the soil of Bangladesh was soaked with the blood of our leaders and activists. Today we have to identify who are the enemies of victory, he added.
He said, “If you want to ensure victory, we must defeat BNP and militancy. We have to defeat those who have belittled our victory time and again. Their existence should be erased from the soil of Bangladesh.”
Otherwise the final victory will not be achieved, he warned.
Criticizing BNP leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy's recent statement, the AL General Secretary said, “Now we have also reached a dead end. Let's see which alley will take a position.”
Regarding the statement of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, he said, “Don't believe Fakhrul. They are traitors. BNP founder Ziaur Rahman betrayed with Bangabandhu and the national leaders. They cannot be trusted anymore.”
Obaidul Quader ordered the leaders and activists to spend a sleepless night from the 27 October.
He said there will be no sleep from the 27 October. What to do with sleep where the question of my existence.
Pointing out that AL's goal is not only elections, he said, "An election is not our goal, our goal is to free the country from evil forces, anarchy and militancy."
“We don't need to pay heed to the words outside the country. Because people have taken an oath under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina to eliminate evil forces from Bangladesh”, he concluded.
He also said, “Do not leave the streets. We will not attack, never have.”
AL presidium members Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Dr Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Advocate Kamrul Islam, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Joint Secretary Mahbub Ul Alam Hanif, Bahauddin Nashim, Organizing Secretary Mirza Azam and Publicity Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, among others, addressed the meeting.
