An activist of Awami League was killed in an attack by his rival at Mohammadpur upazila in Magura on Saturday morning over establishing supremacy. The deceased was identified as Muktar Molla 60, son of Jalil Mollah of Shibrampur village at the upazila.
Additional superintendent of Magura police Tariqul Islam said that there had been a long-standing dispute between Molla family and Mridha family over establishing supremacy in the area. As a sequel, supporters of Mridha attacked Molla's house this morning over cutting a tree on a disputed land. They hacked Muktar indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to Magura 250-Bed Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Confirming the matter, Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tarak Nath Bishwas said a chase and counter chase took place between them and houses were also looted after the incident.
