The Awami League may have held a protest march in Gulshan, a major thoroughfare in the capital, after holding discussions with Jamaat-e-Islami, said Prime Minister's Political Assistant Rashed Khan.

He said the Awami League may have secretly contacted Jamaat-e-Islami and gained the courage to hold the procession. In 1996, Jamaat-e-Islami, along with the Awami League, had protested against the BNP government. This time too, the Awami League is gaining the courage to protest because of Jamaat, he said.

Rashed Khan made the remarks while responding to journalists' questions after participating virtually in the inauguration of the government's three-month-long programme to prevent dengue and a dengue-prevention awareness rally in Jhenaidah on Saturday (September 12) morning.

The Prime Minister's Political Assistant also said the BNP had led the anti-dictatorship movement of the 1990s and the mass uprising of 24. Leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated organisations gave their lives. Therefore, the BNP wants to keep all parties involved in the anti-fascist movement united. On the other hand, Jamaat and NCP have created divisions among the anti-fascist forces, he said.

Earlier, he participated in an awareness rally on dengue prevention organised by the Jhenaidah district administration. #EK
