Veteran actor Afzal Hossain, known for his powerful performances across stage, television, and cinema, is making a comeback to the web series scene. His latest project, Messmate, is set to premiere on the OTT platform Bongo on November 13. In this series, Afzal takes on the role of a psychologist, a character that adds to his versatile acting portfolio.

Afzal’s last appearance in a web series was in Karagar 2, released in December 2022. Despite his prior involvement in the web-film Baba Someone’s Following Me, health issues led to his withdrawal from the project. Since then, his on-screen appearances have been rare. Messmate was filmed in 2022 and will finally be released after a lengthy post-production period.

The series, based on Palash Purkayastha’s novel Messmate, has been adapted for the screen by director John Milton. The story follows the character Mamun, who is haunted by nightmares in which he witnesses deaths that later occur exactly as he dreamed. Seeking help from Afzal's character, a psychologist named Afzalur Rahman, Mamun embarks on a journey filled with mystery and suspense. However, the plot takes a twist when the psychologist disappears, leading detectives on a dangerous path to uncover the truth.

Director John Milton expressed his admiration for Afzal Hossain, praising his commitment to the role. "Afzal completely surrenders to the director like a child during filming, despite being a veteran," he said. The series also features performances by Mostafizur Noor Imran, Shikder Mukit, Abdullah Al Sentu, Jayraj, Masum Bashar, and Nazmus Sakib.
