African variants of coronavirus found in Ctg

Bangladesh Council of Science and Industry Research (BCSIR) identified the presence of African type of Covid-19 virus in the sample of a patient tested at the Covid-19 identification lab of Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU).

The Whole Genome Sequence of SARS-CoV-2 or Novel Coronavirus was recently uncovered from a sample of the infected person. It shows the presence of an African type. The matter was confirmed in a press release sent by CVASU Deputy Director (Public Relations and Protocol) Khalilur Rahman on Tuesday.

He said samples of corona virus test of 6 Bangladeshi nationals who returned to India from Civil Surgeon's Office, Chattogram on May 15 were sent to CVASU Covid-19 identification lab.  Of these, 5 were reported as covid negative and 1 as positive.

Under the overall guidance of CVASU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Gautam Buddha Das and with the financial support of Poultry Research and Training Center (PRTC) of CVASU, Prof. Dr. Paritosh Kumar Biswas, Prof. Dr. Sharmin Chowdhury conducted the research activities on assessment of health risk of patients infected with Covid-19.
