Afghanistan team arrive for one-off Test

Afghanistan team arrived in Dhaka on Saturday morning for their one-off Test against Bangladesh, starting on June 14 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

Afghanistan players are scheduled to take part in three practice sessions at the National Cricket Academy in Mirpur from June 11–13 before they face the hosts in the lone Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur from June 14–18.

Afghanistan have decided to rest Rashid Khan for the one-off Test, he also missed the first two Sri Lanka ODIs owing to an injury.

They will then travel back to India before returning here again next month to play three ODIs starting on July 5 against Bangladesh in Chattogram.

The T20I series will be played at the Sylhet International Stadium, with the first game on July 14 and the final match on July 16.

Afghanistan have not included Rashid Khan in their 15-member squad for the Test as they opted to rest the star legspinner, who was the hero in their 224-run win over Bangladesh in the only Test ever played between the sides in 2019 in Chattogram.

On the other hand, Bangladesh Cricket Board is considering the idea of increasing the number of breaks during the one-match Test series against Afghanistan, due to excessive heat. The Test is scheduled to be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium from June 14.

Heat seems to be a major concern for the hosts, who are playing only their second Test in June at their own backyard, with the other one played against India in 2015 at Fatullah. The temperature touched 38 degrees on Wednesday.

BCB have taken several measures to make sure that their cricketers are able to withstand the heat that seemed to have had taken a toll on them in the preparation camp ahead of the Test.
