Adviser on Liberation War Affairs Faruk-e-Azam, Bir Pratik, expressed satisfaction over the absence of waterlogging in Chattogram city despite the continuous rains.

He inspected the integrated waterlogging relief activities of the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) on Friday afternoon.

During the inspection, Adviser Faruk-e-Azam informed the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and Railways Adviser Dr. Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan about the progress of the waterlogging relief activities through a video call.

Present with him were CCC Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Muhammad Touhidul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Md. Sharif Uddin, Malaria and Mosquito Control Officer Md. Sharful Islam Mahi, Deputy Chief Cleaning Officer Pranab Kumar Sharma and Mayor's Waterlogging Advisor Shahriar Khaled, among others.

The adviser visited waterlogging-prone areas including Rahmatganj, JM Sen Lane, GEC intersection, Muradpur and Bahaddarhat and exchanged views with local residents of the concerned areas.

Adviser said, "It is a big success that there is no waterlogging in the city even after continuous rains. Behind this success is the coordinated efforts of Chattogram City Corporation and other service organizations. If the work continues in a planned manner, the city residents will be able to remain free from waterlogging in the future as well. The remaining works must be completed quickly while maintaining the continuity of the ongoing activities."

Incidentally, 167.1 millimeters of rainfall was recorded in Chattogram from 6 am on Thursday to 6 am on Friday due to the low pressure created in the Bay of Bengal. However, as a precautionary measure, the work of cleaning drains and digging canals was started on time, so no significant waterlogging was seen anywhere in the city.

City Corporation officials said that as per the instructions of the interim government, waterlogging relief activities have been carried out under the leadership of Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain through multiple coordination meetings and field visits. This led to coordination between the CCC, CDA, Water Development Board, Army and other relevant agencies. As a result of these continuous activities, the city residents have got some relief from waterlogging this time.
