There are 23 lakh people unemployed in the country in the last quarter (October-December) of 2023, while the number was 23.20 lakh in the last quarter (October-December) of the previous year (2022), according to a survey on the labour force conducted by Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS). Of them, 15.70 lakh are male while 7.80 lakh are females.

However, the government is taking all-out measures to generate job opportunities for the youths and ensure sustainable economic development of the country by taking up more new projects. When these development projects will be implemented, a large number of unemployed youths will get jobs alongside sustainable economic development.

A large number of students are obtaining Honours and Master’s degrees from different universities every year. Once we had to witness serious session jam taking away valuable time from the university students of the country.

But, now our students do not face such situation and they are completing their Honours and Master’s degrees on time. After passing out from their universities or higher educational institutions, they start applying for different government and private jobs.

But they are now facing serious difficulties due to lengthy recruitment procedure especially in the government jobs including attractive public cadre service. Thousands of jobseekers are in deep frustration for the lengthy process.

They are becoming the burden on their families and the country as well. The young people are also suffering from depression as they cannot contribute anything to the country. The authorities concerned including Public Service Commission (PSC) takes a long time for completing the recruitment procedures.

It is not acceptable to linger the recruitment process rather the selected candidates should be given appointment at their respective sectors. Therefore, the authorities must utilise their innovative ideas, efficiency and strength for expediting the recruitment process.

We believe as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has vowed to advance the country further by overcoming all hurdles, her government is working to create employment opportunity for the youths. We think it will not be wise for our youths to sit idle awaiting jobs rather they should use their talents in creating self-employment. None will remain jobless in the country if the youths have self-confidence and self-dignity.
