Action of humanitarian police saves mentally-ill youth

An on-duty Sub-Inspector of Police has set a humanitarian example by rescuing a seriously injured, mentally retarded young man and handing him over to the family members after his treatment at the hospital. 

The policeman has been identified as Shamim Hossain of Kakonhat Police Investigation Centre under Godagari upazila. SI Shamim Hossain informed, on Thursday noon the mentally retarded young man fell from the running train and received serious injury on the head bleeding profusely. Being panicky, the young man ran some four-kilometre along the road. 

Many people were watching the condition of the young man but no one came forward to rescue him. However, being informed, he rushed to the young man and watched blood was spilling through the injured part of his head. He took rescued the young man and took him to a local health centre where the doctors advised him to admit the injured youth to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for better treatment. So, he procured permission from the higher authority and admitted him to RMCH. 

The youth informs in a cracked voice that his name is Ibrahim, father's name is Shamsul and resides in the village of Debu under Prigachha police station. So, SI Shamim managed the mobile number of UP member of the  area and sent the photograph of the injured, mentally retarded youth to him through online. 

The UP Member contacted the parents of the youth and the father and other guardians from the village arrived at the hospital. After treatment at the RMCH, young man was handed over to his father on Friday. Even, SI Shamim managed transport fare for the return of the young man, his father and guardians since they did not have any money to pay the fare.  

While expressing his reaction, SI Shamim Hossain informed, he tried with his utmost dutifulness as a common citizen to rescue and treat the injured, mentally retarded young man. He added, during the two-day of rescue and treatment of the young man he had forgotten that he is a policeman rather he thought himself as a responsible common citizen.
