Accused in election violence yet to be arrested

Police have not been able to arrest the accused of the Mumurdia Union Parishad election violence after 7 days under Katiadi upazila in Kishoreganj. However, the other accused in the case are also roaming openly in the area. Meanwhile, locals have expressed concern over the failure to arrest the accused so far.

Sources in the case said that on December 26, the winning UP member Jamal Mia and his supporters launched a surprise attack on the supporters of the defeated UP member Jahangir with locally made weapons. Later there was a clash between the two sides. At one stage of the clash, 18 houses and motorcycles were vandalized.

Besides, Jamal Mia's supporters looted cash and household items. After receiving the news, the plaintiff and his family interrupted and beat them. In this incident, UP member Jamal Mia led the attack with sticks and iron rods. There are also videos related to this. 

The plaintiff in the case, injured Rafiq Mir (28) said that the main accused Jamal Mia has not been arrested so far after the case.

 We demand immediate arrest and trial of the culprits.

Katiadi Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge SM Shahadat Hossain said, “Police have arrested one person in the incident after filing a case. The operation to arrest the main accused is continuing.”
