ACC sues UP member, two others for relief scam

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two cases against three people, including a UP member in Sherpur, for embezzling government rice and relief items.

Assistant Director of Tangail ACC integrated office Atiqul Alam on Thursday filed the two cases. ACC director and public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed the information.

The accused in the case are Sultan Member of Central Poyabhag of Nakla Upazila and Abu Bakkar of the same village and Malijhikandi UP Member of Jhenaigati Upazila Minara Begum.

Pranab Kumar said that in one case, Sultan Member of Madhya Poyabhag in Nakla upazila of Sherpur district and Abu Bakkar alias Bakkar of the same village were accused.     The case filed states that the accused misappropriated power and embezzled ten sacks of  VGD rice and a total of 300 kg of government rice through conspiracy and breach of criminal code. 

The case has been filed against the accused under sections 409/420 and 109 of the Penal Code and section 5 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.

In another case, the same ACC official accused Minara Begum, a member of Malijhikandi Union Parishad in Jhenaigati upazila of Sherpur district, of embezzling relief items.
