ACC sues Kushtia upazila chairman, wife over corruption

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against Kushtia Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Ataur Rahman Ata and his wife Sammiara Parvin, assistant teacher of Government Primary School in Kushtia Town, on the charge of acquiring wealth beyond the known income. On Monday (March 11), Assistant Director of ACC Kushtia Integrated District Office Neel Kamal Pal filed the case as the plaintiff.

The upazila chairman Ataur Rahman Ata Kushtia is also the general secretary of Kushtia Town Awami League. According to the case statement, Sammiara Parvin, an assistant teacher of Municipal Government Primary School No-4 in Kushtia town, has given baseless or false information of assets worth Tk 3,65,468.

ACC deputy director and public relations officer Aktarul Islam said similarly, Ataur Rahman Ata has committed an offense punishable under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act by acquiring and possessing disproportionate assets of Tk 63,66,574. 

Which is an offense punishable under Section 26 (2) and 27 (1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004 and Section 109 for assisting wife. 

Due to this, the case has been filed against both of them, he added.
