The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against former mayor of Rangamati municipality and three others on allegation of emblazing nearly Tk 20 lakhs from the government’s exchequer.
Abul Bashar, assistant director of the ACC’ Rangamati office, filed the case at the Rangamati District Session and Judges Court on Thursday.
Former mayor and vice-president of Rangamati district unit BNP Saiful Islam Bhutto, former account officer Sakur Miah, tax collector Nirmol Kanti Das and account assistant Md. Nurul Amin were named in the lawsuit.
Of them, Sakur is now posted at Raojan municipalty in Chattogram. According the case statement, together the four misappropriated Tk 19,88,847 which local municipality received from holding taxes.
It’s a punishable crime under the Corruption Prevention Act.
