ACC sues 11 over Tk 34cr embezzlement

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against 11 people on allegation of embezzling Tk 34.42 crore from a pump house project on Mono river in Moulvibazar.

ACC deputy assistant director of Habiganj district office Shahidur Rahman lodged a lawsuit with Habiganj Sadar police on October 28 under the penal code and the Anti-Corruption act.

Two of accused are incumbent executive engineer Anisur Rahman, 55 and Ex-executive engineer M Golam Sarwar, 58 of DND Pump house BWDB Shimrail in Narayangonj.

While the other accused are chief engineer Chowdhury Nazmul Alam, mechanical division of water development boat, Pabna circle superintendent engineer also former project director SM Shahidul Islam, design circle-3(mechanical) executive engineer Mohammad Abbas Ali, design circle-1 in Dhaka superintendent engineer Abdul Basit, Chandpur mechanical deputy division executive engineer (additional duty) Ruhul Amin, Sigma engineer’s limited managing director engineer Syed Mohammad Kamal, it’s chairman engineer Syed Arshed Reza and its general manager engineer Abdus Salam.

According to the case details, the accused misappropriated Tk 34,42,17,196 from a pump house project on Mono river in Moulvibazar to purchase eight water pump machines.

AS the allegation of embezzlement arose, ACC conducted an investigation and found that the actual cost of the eight water pumps were 20,41,07, 603 while the accused showed it Tk 54,83,24,799.
