ACC files cases against NCC councillor, 5 others

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed six cases against six people in Narayanganj, including NCC councillor and local UP chairmen, for acquiring wealth beyond the known sources. 

The ACC has been investigating the matter to find the amount of corruption and its earned illegal wealth worth.

According to the case story, the accused are- Motiur Rahman Moti, a ward no-6 councillor of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC); Md. Jahed Ali, chairman of Kayetpara union council of Rupganj upazila; Masum Ahmed, former chairman of Dhamgar union council of Bandar upazila; Deloar Prodhan, chairman of Kalagachhia union council of Bandar upazila; Rofikul Islam, former tax collector of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) and his wife Shahida Begum, a home maker.

The cases have been filed by ACC’s assistant directors- Md. Ibrahim Hossain, Mahbubul Alam, Omor Faruk, and Sayeed Imran Hossain.

Anti Corruption Commission sources confirmed that all the accused were found guilty in primary investigation and earned wealth through irregularities and various corruptions.

Conducted surveys it was found that the accused of ACC filed corruption cases were low profile government staff or low income people who became multi-millionaire through malpractice.

Rofikul was a tax collector of BIWTA and Deloar Pradhan was petty staff of a government run oil depot and thus he is widely known as tel chora (oil pilferer) Delu now a man of crore and dignified society.

All the cases have been filed from February 27,2022 to September 20,2023.  Anti Corruption Commission and money laundering act have been imposed against all accused in the criminal cases.

The anti corruption commission act 2004 section 26(2) 27(1) 19(3) and money laundering act 2012 section 4(2) 4(8) have been imposed respectively.

Narayanganj conscious citizens, expressing happiness in the ACC drive, demanded that many more corrupted people were still in here, so the drive needed first to net them in law.
