A tale of an old man’s fight against poverty

A 70 years old man Anwar Hossain Annu has been running his tea stall for bearing his five members family at Darshana Thana Para in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga district. He urged upon authority of social welfare department for giving him interest free loan to run his tea stall with sufficient capital. 

According to the local sources, Anwar Hossain Annu, 70, son of Fariduddin of the area, started the tea stall in 1972 with capital tk. 170. His friends and relatives gave furniture for the tea stall as gift. After selling tea and biscuits, he made profit at tk. 35 in the period. So he managed his family members with peace. 

He said, `I have been fighting against poverty from my boyhood, still working to maintain my family through small business.’ 

It is learnt, he has four sons, two daughters and  granddaughter. They are Arman Hossain, Morad Hossain, Arzu Hossain, Raz Hossain, Tamanna Khatun, Nasrin Khatun and Tamanna’s daughter Liza Khatun. 

Amzad Hossain, Morad Hossain and Morad Hossain engaged themselves in small business after passing SSC. They are now separate from their father’s family. 

At present Raz Hossain, Tamanna Khatun, her daughter Liza Khatun and Nasrin Khatun are his family members. He has to maintain them with educational expenses. 

Raz Hossain, Nasrin Khatun and Liza Khatun are reading at Uthuly College, Darshana Girls’ High School and Jibannagar Girls’ College respectively. 

He stated, his monthly incomes tk 1500 from tea stall, tk. 3000 from house rent and tk. 500 from elderly allowance but monthly expenditure is about tk. 13,000 for the family. 

Anwar Hossain Annu said, he has been suffering from various disease as he has to staying in standing position at the tea stall for making tea and to give other things to the customers that is very complicated to him. 

He urged upon the social welfare department to give him interest free loan for running his tea stall without any troubles.
