A total of 983 business establishments were fined in Khulna region this year by the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection. The body fined business establishments for selling adulterated foods, cheating in weight and different irregularities.
The information was revealed at a view exchange meeting on Consumer Rights Protection Act-2019. Khulna divisional office of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection arranged the view exchange meeting at its office on Thursday.
Deputy Director of the department SM Nazimul Islam presided over the meeting, while it was addressed, among others, by Deputy Chief Information Officer of Khulna region M Javed Iqbal, and Assistant Director of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection Md. Nazmul Hasan.
Speakers informed in the meeting that a collection of Tk. 38 lakh 10 thousand was made in total as fine from those 983 establishments. Apart from that, based on 140 complaints they have collected Tk. 2 lakh and 86 thousand one hundred from 26 business establishments and repaid 26 persons Tk. 71 thousand 5 hundred this year.
