The Coast Guard has seized 90,000 yaba tablets worth an estimated Tk4.5 crore during an anti-narcotics operation in the sea area off Shah Porir Dwip in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon disclosed the information on Wednesday afternoon.

He said a special operation was conducted around 7am on October 7 in the Golar Char sea area of Shah Porir Dwip under Teknaf upazila based on a tip-off.

A team from Coast Guard Station Teknaf and its Shah Porir Dwip outpost took part in the operation.

During the operation, the Coast Guard personnel signalled a suspicious engine-powered wooden boat to stop. Sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, the suspected drug smugglers fled the area, he said.

Later, the Coast Guard conducted a search of the area and recovered a floating bag containing approximately 90,000 yaba tablets.

The seized yaba has an estimated market value of Tk4.5 crore, according to the Coast Guard.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir said legal procedures regarding the seized drugs were underway.

He added that the Coast Guard would continue such operations in the future to prevent the spread of dangerous narcotics in the country.
