82 aspirants submit nomination papers in Jashore municipal polls

A total of 82 candidates including 4 candidates for the post of mayor, have filed nomination papers for upcoming Jashore municipal polls. 

These candidates have submitted their nomination papers to Senior District Election Officer and Returning Officer Humayun Kabir and Assistant Returning Officer, Sadar Upazila Election Officer Abdur Rashid. 

According to the announcement of the schedule for the municipal elections, February 2 was the last day to collect and submit nomination papers. 

According to district election office sources, Awami League-nominee district AL vice-president Haider Gani Khan Palash, BNP nominee Maruful Islam Maruf, Islami Andolan Bangladesh nominee Mohammad Ali and independent candidate Abdur Rahman Kakon Mridha have filed nomination papers for the post of mayor. 

On the other hand, 65 candidates filed nomination papers for the post of councilor and 13 candidates filed nomination papers for the post of reserved women councilor. 

Among them, incumbent councilors Jahangir Ahmed Shakil, Zakir Hossain Rajib, Mujibur Rahman, Tipu Sultan and Sahidur Rahman have filed nomination papers for the post of ward councilor no 1. Current councilor Sheikh Rashed Abbas Raju, former councilor Iqbal Kabir, Tapan Kumar Ghosh, Mir Mosharraf Hossain Babu, Zahidul Islam, Tutul Mollah, Ashraful Kabir Billal, Osmanuzzaman Chowdhury and Anubrat Saha Mithun have filed nomination papers for the post of ward councilor no 2. 

Meanwhile, Councilor Moksimul Bari Apu, Umme Maksuda Masu, Kamruzzaman, Delwar Hossain Tito, Omar Farooq, Shamim Ahmed Rony, Sabbir Mallick and Shafiqul Islam have filed nomination papers for the post of ward councilor no 3. 

Mostafizur Rahman Musta, Zahid Hossain, Ferdous Hossain and Mohammad Moin Uddin have filed nomination papers for the post of ward councilor no 4. 

Incumbent councilors Habibur Rahman Mani Chakladar, Rajibul Alam, Hafizur Rahman, Mokshedur Rahman Bhutto, Sharif Abdullah Al Masood, Shahzada Newaz and Mizanur Rahman have filed nomination papers for the post of ward councilor no 5. Incumbent councilors Alamgir Kabir Sumon, SM Azahar Hossain Swapan, Ashrafuzzaman, Anishuzzaman, Papia Akter, Ashraful Hasan, Azizul Islam, Billal Patwari have filed nomination papers for the post of ward councilor no 6. 

Incumbent councilors Golam Mostafa, Shamsuddin Babu, Abu Shah Jalal, Shahedur Rahman, Shahed Hossain, Kamal Hossain, Zulfiqar Ali, Abu Shah Jalal (2), SM Mahmudul Hasan Sumon and Rabiul Islam have filed nomination papers for the post of ward councilor of ward no 7. Current councilor Santosh Dutta, former councilors Moniruzzaman Masum, Pradeep Kumari Nath Bablu, Gouranga Pal Babu and Obaidul Islam Rakib have filed nomination papers for the post of ward councilor of ward no 8. 

In addition, incumbent councilors Azizul Islam, Sheikh Ferdous Wahid, Sheikh Nasim Uddin Palash, Azizul Islam, Advocate Asaduzzaman Babul, Abu Bakkar Siddiqui, Sheikh Shahid, Swapan Kumar Dhar, Khandaker Maruf Hussain and Riaz Uddin have filed nomination papers for the post of ward councilor no 9. 

Incumbent councilors Irene Parveen, Ayesha Siddique, Sun-e Shakila Afroz, Sufia Begum, Archana Adhikari, Rehena Parveen, Ruma Akter, Rokeya Begum and Selina Khatun have also filed nomination papers for the reserved women's councilor posts in ward no 1, 2 and 3. 

Besides ncumbent councilors Nasima Akhter Jolly and Nasima Sultana have filed nomination papers for the posts of councilors from wards 4, 5 and 6 while, incumbent councilors Sheikh Rokeya Parveen Dolly and Salma Akhter Bani have filed nomination papers for the post of reserved women's councilor in ward no 7, 8 and 9. 

Abdur Rashid, Upazila Election Officer and Assistant Returning Officer for the election, said the nomination papers would be verified and selected on February 4. The last day for withdrawal of candidacy is February 11, symbols would be allotted on February 12 and the election is scheduled on February 28.
