Eight people, including women and children, were rescued from deep inside the hills of Baharchhara in Teknaf during a joint operation by the Bangladesh Coast Guard and Navy.

On Wednesday, Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque confirmed the rescue. He said that based on intelligence reports, authorities learned that a group of people, including women and children, were being held captive in a remote hill area, with plans to traffic them to Malaysia by sea.

Acting on this information, a joint operation was launched on Tuesday, from 5 PM to 7 PM. The operation took place near Jumma Para hills in Baharchhara, Teknaf. During the raid, security forces discovered a secret hideout used by traffickers and rescued the victims.

However, the traffickers managed to flee after detecting the presence of the security team, and no arrests were made. The Coast Guard and Navy have continued intelligence surveillance and operations to capture those responsible.

Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque added that such operations will continue to prevent human trafficking along the coastal areas of Bangladesh.
