After being abandoned for almost six years, the supply of gas to the national transmission line has started from Well No 1 of Sylhet's Biyanibazar gas field from Monday. From there, 7 to 8 million cubic feet of gas per day will be connected to the national grid. Before this, gas was supplied experimentally on Sunday night.

Deputy General Manager (DGM) and Project Director of Biyanibazar Gas Well Engineer Abdul Jalil Pramanik confirmed this information. He said that some gas was experimentally supplied to the national transmission line on Sunday night. Gas supply to national transmission lines has started from Monday. We are working on CT testing. We have ensured the gas supply by fixing the fuel combination process. 7 to 8 million cubic feet of gas per day can be supplied to the national transmission line from here.

Managing Director of Sylhet Gas Field Limited (SGFL) Mizanur Rahman said that gas is being supplied to the national transmission line since midnight on Sunday. At the end of gas pressure testing. All technical preparations for supplying gas to the national grid have also been completed. With the approval of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, gas supply to the national grid has started from Monday. Gas extraction from that well was stopped for about six years.

According to SGFL sources, there are two wells in the Biyanibazar gas field. Production started in 1999 from well number 1 Gas extraction was stopped in 2014 when water and sand started coming up from the well after 15 years. After two years, production resumed in early 2016 but had to be stopped again at the end of that year for the same reason. Since then the gas well has been abandoned. Recently, when the government paid special attention to gas exploration, experiments started again with well number 1 of the Biyanibazar gas field. This shows the possibility of getting gas in the well again. Later, on September 10 this year, Bapex started drilling again in the abandoned well. At the time of the start of the excavation work, the concerned informed about the possibility of 70 billion cubic feet of gas reserves in that well.

Currently, the well is known to have more than 70 billion cubic feet of gas stored at a depth of 3,254 meters.

Those concerned said that after the gas pressure test, it was found that the well is capable of supplying 10 to 12 million cubic feet of gas per day. However, considering various technical aspects, 7 to 8 million cubic feet of gas will be supplied daily. It will get 125 to 130 barrels of condensate gas daily.
