8 killed in Tangail road crashes

Eight people including three of a family were killed in separate road accidents in Tangail on Saturday. 

Four persons were killed when a bus and a microbus hit of a standing truck on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in Dhulya Munsur area under Mirzapur in Tangail in the early hours of Saturday. At least 9 others were injured in the incident. Acute traffic jam was created on the highway centering the accident.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gorai Highway Police Station Molla Tutul said that three bodies have been recovered. However, their identity was not found. Another person died in the hospital. Traffic on the highway is normal.

Meanwhile, another accident took place in Pakullya area of Mirzapur upazila of the district at 11:40am on Saturday. Three members of a family were killed in the road accident. 

The deceased were identified as Parvin Akter, 35, her son Sumon, 10 and Parvin’s daughter Sadia, 7, residents of Bashtoily village under Bashtoily union of Tangail. Locals said, “A rashly driven passenger bus ran over the trio while they were crossing the road in the area, leaving Sadia dead on the spot and her mother and brother injured critically.”

The injured were stormed to local hospitals where they succumbed to their injuries. Locals blockaded the roads in the area for a while and staged protest of the accident.

Officer-in-charge of Mirzapur police station Sheikh Abu Sohel Masud confirmed the matter.

On the other hand, a pedestrian was killed when he was crossing the road in the east side of Bangabandhu Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
