8 fast-track project work progress 85pc till Sept

Work on eight fast-track projects in the country are going on full swing as the overall progress is 85.05 per cent by September this year.

According to the progress report of September prepared by the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) of the Planning Commission, the financial progress is 73 per cent.

According to the progress report, Tk 2,10,382 crore of the total Tk 3,06,269 crore cost has been spent on these mega projects till September this year.

The projects are – Padma Multipurpose Bridge, Payra Port, Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar rail link, Rampal super thermal power project, Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (MRT-6), Padma Rail Link, Matarbari 2x600 MW Ultra Super Critical Coal Fired Power and Maitree Super Thermal Power Project.

About the matter, a senior official of IMED told Bangladesh Post said that fast-track projects are being inspected and then progress reports of them are prepared. So, it will be easier to track the current status of projects and troubleshoot any complications, he added

“We are sending the progress report to the Fast Track Task Force through the Economic Relations Division (ERD),” he added. Padma Multipurpose Bridge

On June 25, the Padma Multipurpose Bridge opened for transportation for all. But the work of the project is not completed 100 per cent. It records physical progress of 99.80 per cent and financial progress of 90.50 per centwith Tk 29,507.45 crore spent so far till September.

The cost of the project is estimated at Tk 30,193.39 crore while the construction works started in November 2014. Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant

The works of the biggest ever Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project is going on full swing. The financial progress of the project is 58.61 per cent while the physical progress of the project is 60 per cent with a total expenditure of Tk 66,286 crore.  Metro Rail Service (MRT-6)

The metro rail from Uttara to Agargaon opened for all in December last year. The Agargaon-Motijheel portion is likely to be opened for all this December while it will be opened on its on November 4. The project expected to be completed by December 2025.

IMED report said financial progress stands at 68.70 per centThe physical progress of the project has been 82 per cent.

However, the government escalates the project cost to Tk 33,471 crore for expanding Motijheel to Kamalapur while Tk 23,000 crore has been spent under the project till September. 

Padma Bridge Rail Link Project

The Padma rail link records physical progress of 83 per cent and financial progress of 77.26 per cent with around Tk 30,322 crore spent so far till September. The government will implement the project by June 2024 with an estimated cost of Tk 39,246 crore.

Payra Sea Port

The financial progress of the Payra Sea project port is 85.77 per cent while the physical progress of the project is 91.37 per cent. The cost of Payra deep seaport project is at Tk 4,374 crore while Tk 3,752.13 has been spent till September.

Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar via Dohazari Rail Line Project

The physical progress of the project is 89 per cent while the financial progress of the project is 45.56 per cent.

Rampal Power Plant 

The power plant also known as Maitree Super Thermal Power Project, has two units, each with 660MW production capacity. The project is not included in the annual development programme (ADP).

The physical progress of the project is 96.26 per cent while its financial progress is 90.46 per cent. The cost of the project is estimated at Tk 16,000 crore.

Matarbari Power Plant

The physical progress of the Matarbari Power Plant project is 79 per cent while its financial progress is 67.16 per cent till September.
