8,820 maize farmers get incentives in Jhenaidah

8,820 maize farmers in six upazilas of Jhenaidah had received incentives like seeds, fertilizers and some other farming input in the season. The aim of the incentives was to increase the yield and make the crop farming profitable for the farmers, said the officials of the department of agricultural extension (DAE) in Jhenaidah Khamarbari.

Gazi Bashir Uddin, a farmer of village Moheshwarchanda in Kaliganj upazila in Jhenaidah when contacted said he has ben farming maize on his one bigha of land in the season, he is expecting Taka 70 thousand for his 70 maunds of maize where the net profit might not stand below Taka 50 thousand in six months. No other crop might ensure such profit, Gazi Bashir Uddin said.

Jhenaidah DAE deputy director office sources said they has distributed 17.64 tons of maize seeds, 17.64 tons of dye ammonium phosphate (DAP) and 88.20 tons of muriate of potash (MoP) among the said 8,820 farmers in the meantime.

Deputy director of Jhenaidah DAE Asgar Ali when contacted said the seeds and fertilizers were distributed among the bonafide farmers of Jhenaidah sadar, Kaliganj, Kotchandpur, bordering Moheshpur, Shailkupa and Harinakundu upazilas so that they could utilize the input to increase the maize production on their lands and make the farming profitable.  The incentives will undoubtedly reduce the farming cost and help strengthen the socio-economic state of the farmers, DAE deputy director said.
