Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7) has arrested a man with 8,000 liters of stolen diesel conducting a raid at an oil tanker in Karnafuli River on Thursday evening.
The arrestee was identified as Abdur Shukkur Prakash Balla (40), son of late Md. Ali of Karnafuli Police Station, South Shahrimpur area. RAB-7 Assistant Director (Media) Nurul Abshar said, “A group of men stockpiled these oils by evading everyone from the oil-carrying lighter ships near the port.
They also stole oil from different places. Later, the smugglers used to sell these oils in different places. About 8,000 liters of diesel was recovered in the operation. The estimated value of the recovered oil is Tk 5.44 thousand.”
Karnafuli Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Dulal Mahmud said, “How they stole the oil is a mystery. There might be a cycle involved behind this.
The accused will be questioned. The accused in the case has been sent to the court.”
