The fire has been brought under control at the Eastern Refinery, a state-owned oil refinery in Chattogram city. Four units of fire service brought the fire under control in about 2 hours. The authorities have formed a committee of 7 members to investigate the incident.
Eastern Refinery Managing Director Lokman Hossain confirmed this information on Saturday.
He said the fire broke out in a pipeline near the metering section of the tank farm area of the refinery. We don't have any people there. So we cannot say for sure now about the fire. However, we have formed a six-member committee headed by our General Manager (Operation and Planning) Raihan Ahmed to investigate the incident. I have asked to submit the report today. Once we get the report, we will know the details about the fire.
BPC Director (Operation) Syed Khalid Ahmed said that a 7-member investigation committee headed by General Manager of Eastern Refinery Raihan Ahmed has been formed.
Deputy Assistant Director of Fire Service Abdul Hamid said, after getting information about the fire, eight vehicles of our four units went to the spot and managed to bring the fire under control after about 2 hours of effort. It is not yet known what caused the fire. It will be known after the investigation. Although there was no major damage.
Earlier, a fire broke out near the metering section of the Eastern Refinery's tank farm area around 11 am. On receiving the information, 8 vehicles of 4 units of fire service went to the spot. The fire was brought under control at 12 noon. Now the fire service is monitoring the situation.
