6 more die of Covid in 24 hrs

Bangladesh registered six more deaths from Covid-19 in 24 hours till 8am Saturday. This takes the total number of deaths to 27,918. The current positivity rate stands at 1.11pc.

Although the daily deaths have seen minor fluctuations, the overall number of cases remains significantly low.

The country recorded 151 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 1,572,278, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday. According to experts, the Covid-19 situation in a country can be claimed to be under control if the infection rate remains under 5pc for two weeks. Bangladesh has successfully achieved that feat over a month ago.

The death rate now stands at 1.78 pc in the country, as per the press release. Around 13,569 samples were tested during this time.

Of the 6 diseased, three died in Dhaka division, and one each in Chattogram, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions. 

Around 192 people recovered from the virus during the time. Up until now, a total of 1,536,303people have recovered from the virus and the recovery rate stands at 97.71 pc. 

As of Saturday, 5,107,920 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 253,382,827 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
